Peru

Welcome to Peru! Peru is one of the most vibrant and colorful countries in Latin America. Its vibrant cities, breathtaking nature and rich history make it a unique destination. Located in the heart of the South American continent, Peru is a country full of adventure and experiences.

The capital of Peru is Lima, which is also known as the “Kingdom of Kingdoms”. Home to more than 8.5 million people, the city is a vibrant mix of old colonial buildings, modern skyscrapers and stunning beaches. Some of the most popular attractions in Lima are the Gold Museum, the Catacombs of Friar Junípero Serra and the Plaza Mayor.

Another famous city in Peru is Cusco. Once the capital of the Inca Empire, the city is still a center of culture and faith. Cusco is known for its ancient 16th century buildings, including the Church of Santo Domingo and the Church of La Compañía de Jesús. The city is also famous for its numerous archaeological sites, including Sacsayhuamán, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. With more than 400,000 inhabitants, Cusco is Peru’s second largest city after Lima.

Another popular city in Peru is Arequipa. The “white city” is located in the snow-capped Andes and is home to over 900,000 residents. Some of the most popular attractions in Arequipa are the Santa Maria Cathedral and the Santa Catalina Monastery. The city is also known for its vast lava fields and the nearby Colca Gorge.

The last major city in Peru is Trujillo. The city is known for its rich historical background, including the historic old town, Trujillo Cathedral, and the ruins of Chan Chan. With a population of about 630,000, Trujillo is Peru’s third largest city after Cusco.

Peru offers many attractions for tourists. Some of the most popular destinations include the famous Inca Trail, the Amazon rainforest, the Huacachina Oasis, the Nazca Lines and the Moai statues on Easter Island. Peru is also known for its famous festivals, including the Inti Raymi in Cusco, the Virgen de la Candelaria in Puno and the Festival de la Virgen de la Puerta in Trujillo.

When you travel to Peru, there are many delicious specialties to try. Some of the most popular dishes are ceviche, a marinated fish, causa, a potato casserole, and lomo saltado, a spicy dish of roasted beef. There are also many local dishes typical of each region, including chicharron, a baked pork dish, and choclo, a sweet, crunchy corn dish.

When traveling to Peru, don’t forget to look for souvenirs for each region. Some of the most typical souvenirs are cowrie shells, handmade dolls, handmade knitwear and handmade metalware.
